Welcoming Dave Juntunen!

The Kercher Group, Inc., is pleased to announce that Dave Juntunen, P.E., has joined the firm to lead our growing Bridge Management Practice. Dave brings more than 31 years of experience from his career as a bridge engineer at the Michigan Department of Transportation to the team. His extensive background includes bridge management, bridge design, structural research, bridge operations, and bridge program development. Dave led the development and implementation of Michigan’s trunkline bridge program from 2002 to 2018, where his use of an effective mix of preservation, rehabilitation, and replacement strategies resulted in nearly a 20 point gain in overall condition, achieving the agency’s strategic goal of having 95% of Michigan’s freeway bridges in good or fair condition.

A nationally recognized leader in bridge management and bridge preservation, Dave’s  professional activities include leader and active member of the American Association of Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Committee for Bridges and Structures where he served on the executive committee, chair for the Technical Committee for Research (T-11), vice-chair for the Technical Committee for Bridge Management, Evaluation, and Rehabilitation (T-18), member of the Technical Committee for Movable Bridges (T-8), member of the Transportation System Preservation Technical Services Program (TSP2) oversight panel, co-chair for the TSP2 National Working Group for Bridge Management Systems, and member of the FHWA/AASHTO Bridge Preservation Expert Task Group.

Dave has been a passionate advocate of bridge management and preservation. He helped create the AASHTO Bridge Element Inspection Manual (BEIM), and led the rewrite of the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, Chapter 3 – Bridge Management Systems.  Dave stands ready to assist our state and local transportation agency clients in achieving their bridge program goals.
